Jalou Langeree Crowned 2018 GKA Kite-Surf World ChampionAfter winning the final two tour stops, Naish’s Jalou Langeree has been crowned the 2018 GKA Kite-Surf World Tour Champion.

Opting to ride the Naish Pivot and Skater, Jalou was feeling right at home in the onshore conditions at Point Danger in Torquay, Australia. 

The quick reaction of the Pivot allowed Jalou to make fast adjustments on the wave as well as provide superior low-end power in the onshore, light wind conditions.

Kevin Langree King of the AirJanuary 31, 2018, Cape Town, South Africa – Taking the Naish Pivot to all new heights, Naish’s Kevin Langeree reclaimed the crown as the 2018 Red Bull King of the Air with Jesse Richman narrowly missing the podium with a fourth place finish.

The high-flying Dutchman had previously won the event in 2014 and missed it all together due to injury in 2017. This year was a triumphant return to the top step of the podium and joined an elite club as only the second kiteboarder to win two King of the Air titles.

Over 50 contestants from all over Europe competed in three disciplines: Race, Freestyle and Hangtime and strong winds of up to 20 knots offered perfect conditions.

Back to Bogota!

Kite LandboardingAfter a torturous three day expedition I thought I was having a bad time but on arrival at Medellin and meeting event organizers Ines Uribe and Jairo of Yaripa, I discover that most of the other flyers from around the world on the previous day had been trying to fly in Force 8 winds and had trashed most of their kites!

Most had decided it was to be a day of rest and repair and perhaps ‘hit the town’. Around here you do that on horseback!

Among the manufacturers were companies such as Gaastra, Naish, Takoon, and Flexifoil.

Among some of the products on show were Flexifoils' brand new sized 'Bullet' RAM Air kites in 5.5m and 7.0m.

Kite ATB MovesGrouped together in a darkened waiting area - a lonely airport attendant decides to start a conversation, "So where are you flying out to?", "Amman, Jordan" I replied. "Holiday or business?" "It's the King's birthday and he has invited a few of his friends over and we are putting on a show" "Wow! What are you doing?" "Flying kites" I replied coyly.

Then I realised what I'd said. At last, Kites are cool, so cool and good to watch that you can be invited around the world by supporters or even Kings to see them, times are changing!

Kitelandboarding in Colombia

Kite ATBTurbulence doesn't bother many Powerkiters though 10 hours of it in a Jumbo eventually got me twitching. We ended up watching the ceiling mounted TV showing a boring film while a disaster movie went on around it!

When we did touch down it was 30°c and windy, the terrain was mountainous which was good and we soon found the people to be really friendly. The hotel was cracking, 27th floor with a superb view over the town of Bogota with its skyscrapers, banks and Presidential Palace.
